Designer: Frank Rettenbacher
From design to product
Santiago, as thin as an aircraft wing, steady thanks to its reinforced frame.
The designer, the Austrian Frank Rettenbacher who lives and works in Amsterdam, reveals the secrets of an engineering project featuring a minimal and appealing design: “the idea of Santiago table is bringing the same lightness of the metal tops I designed for Zanotta in 2014 (small table Emil and console table Mina) into a product with bigger sizes.
The challenge consisted above all in creating a solid wood table featuring the same linear and distinguishing silhouette of the light metal structures.
This type of construction – inspired by the style of architect Santiago Calatrava, whom the table name comes from – provides the best steadiness although the wooden legs are as thin as possible”.
Top and legs in solid canaletto walnut, natural painted or in solid oak, natural painted or with an open pore black or white finish.
Reinforcing tie-rods in black painted steel for the model in canaletto walnut and in black painted oak, in white painted steel for the model in white painted oak, while for the model in natural oak they are available in burgundy or black painted steel.
