Nello Wall is a veteran-owned business based in the Metropolitan DC area, supporting projects throughout the US. CLARITY by Nello Wall products are proudly made in the U.S.A with locally sourced materials.
Nello Wall Systems was founded by Sam Manganello in 1973, during the construction of the Rouse Company headquarters in the planned community of Columbia, Maryland. To design the building, community developer Jim Rouse commissioned architect Frank Gehry of Gehry Partners, LLP, Los Angeles, California. Together, Rouse and Gehry envisioned an office building that could change with the needs of a growing organization, enabling the entire office to be easily reconfigured with minimal disruption, time and cost.
“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness."Frank Gehry
To achieve this goal, Gehry collaborated with the selected manufacturer Tate Access Floors (wall division later to be renamed Nello Wall Systems) to design the first US building to use a computer raised floor throughout the office space. During this collaboration a moveable wall with stackable components, solid fabric finishes, clerestory glass, modular door units and transoms - not needing to be supported by the ceiling structure - were also created. These designs gave birth to the timeless Nello Wall line which continues to be relied on today.
As proof of its timelessness, the basic concept of this sophisticated office design was preserved and remained in use until 2014, when the original Rouse headquarters building was sold to Whole Foods Markets. The demountable partitions designed in 1973, continued to evolve into the current CLARITY by Nello Wall line. Always remaining timeless, Nello Wall Systems continues to lead the evolution of demountable glass walls, serving as a premier consultant to the Architectural Design, Developer and Contract community.
